Cable TV  (December 2004)

Have you noticed how quiet it now is on the Seletar Camp streets at night? There used to be plenty of people walking their dogs or simply going for an after dinner walk, but since recently, the streets are deserted. Seletar Camp has cable TV!

Our relationship has gone downhill since then, with me spending every waking moment watching Discovery. Cathy threatened to have the decoder removed, until she discovered ‘Sex And The City’ on HBO, after which the decoder became our most precious posession. J.D. Salinger and Stephen King have made way for ‘Telescope’.

The arrival of our decoder, which we now lovingly call ‘Boss’, even completely overshadowed the joy of what I had been waiting for for so long: our new six-cylinder turbo intercooler DOHC 1500 kbps wireless network.
“What?”
“Internet”
“Ah”.
We can now surf the web to find out what time ‘Sex And The City’ starts, right from our verandah, or kitchen, or bedroom, or while bicycling through our street. I haven’t tried it in the shower yet, but I’m sure it works there, too.

Judging by the empty streets, my guess is that at least half this camp now also owns the Starhub giveaway Benq digital camera that came with the cable TV subscription. Didn’t you get one? Call Starhub! It’s a lousy camera, of course, but then again, don’t look in the horse’s mouth. Perhaps we can organize a photo contest for the Monsoon Fair, and see who is most capable of producing an acceptable picture with this camera. We’ll call it ‘the Great Benq 3.1 Megacontest’ and the grand prize shall be a real digital camera (donors, anyone?)

Here’s my entry:
