Singaporean Automobiles

Singaporean cars are a little different from normal cars. Firstly, Singaporean cars are all automatic. Steering a car is difficult enough so having to deal with gears and a clutch is more than the average Singaporean can handle. Thanks to DAF and the automatic transmission, Singaporean cars can loose one paddle.

Talking about paddles, also these are specially modified to suit the Singaporean way of driving. Let's take a closer look at these. Here's an example of the paddles in a normal, European car:

From left to right:

  1. Clutch (used to shift gears)
  2. Brake (used to slow the car down)
  3. Accelerator (used to speed the car up).
Europeans will not be given a drivers license until they can handle all three paddles blindly.

Now, let's take a look at the paddles in a Singaporean car:

From left to right:

  1. Empty space (no clutch, automatic transmission doesn't require a clutch. One less paddle to worry about).
  2. Specially designed XXL High-Performance brake (Including compulsory LTA safety label)
  3. Tiny Accelerator (Actually redundant because automatic cars will start moving by them selves once you release the brake, but left in as a back-up device)
Another interesting difference between European cars and Singaporean cars is the compulsary accessories. Let's take a closer look at these.

The rules and regulations vary from country to country in Europe, but generally, the following items are deemed compulsory or at least highly recommended in every European car:

Fire extinguisher First-aid kit Life Pack
Break-down kit Towing cable Battery cable

Now, let's take a look at Singaporean car accessories:

At least 25 different kinds of Teddy Bears
At least 18 different pink Hello Kitty products
(Pokemon also can)
At least one box of Kleenex (or alternative brand)
At least 1 window sign per window.
Extra-credit points are given for the following signs:

• "Baby on Board"
• "Next gas station: 250 miles"
• "Beware of kangaroos"
• "I brake for animals"

The only sign you will never see in a Singaporean car is the following:

• "Warning: Singaporean Driver behind the wheel"
