Bevaart geneology
The history of the Bevaart family is fascinating but research into the family geneology is a time consuming activity. The oldest generation tracked down so far is Abraham, married to Liesbeth Lijs. The registers make notice that Abraham came from a foreign country, which connects to the stories in our family that we originate from the north of France. There are some loose pieces of data such as Philips van Bevaert, who, in 1667, sailed on "de Fortune" as skipper and who lived in Brugge and Mechelen, but also a J. Bevaert, a money-lending merchant in Gouda in 1490 and of whom the registers state he was from Vlaanderen. There are more names known to us, but we have not been able to tie them to the family tree.
Also, several members of our family have migrated to Canada and the United States, such as Pieter Bevaart who sailed from Rotterdam to Ellis Island on the sailing boat "Rijndam" in 1921. From Ellis Island, he continued his journey to Hull, Iowa
Contact with other members of our family may provide valuable information, as will contact with anyone else who might know something about the Bevaart family and who might have information from Belgium or France.
